Finally construction of deep-sea-port going to start

Although Matarbari deep-sea-port project was in the list of highest priority category but there was no pace in the construction.

Finally initiatives have been taken to start the construction work of deep-sea-port. The project will be sent to the meeting of Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) to provide approval.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury provided a hint in this regard during a meeting with the representatives of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Tuesday.

HIRATA Hitoshi, Chief Representative of JICA in Bangladesh met the state minister today and urged him to do official tasks of the project quickly.

The government has been trying to establish a deep-sea port in the Bay of Bengal against the saturation of the Chittagong Port that handled more than 80 per cent of the country’s sea-borne traffic. The project with an estimated cost of Tk17,777 crore will be built with the financial assistance of JICA.
