‘Flood causes to damage crops worth Tk 349 crore’

Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque has said, ‘According to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Agriculture, the ongoing floods have damaged crops worth about Tk 349 crore. If the flood situation does not deteriorate further, the programmes taken by the Ministry of Agriculture will be able to overcome the damage and it will be possible to achieve the target in aman paddy cultivation.

The Minister told this to risingbd after an online view exchange meeting with agriculture officials at the ministry’s conference room on Monday.

Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said, ‘The flood has damaged several kinds of crops including paddy, vegetables and jute. Many initiatives have been taken to reduce the damage. Arrangements have been made for setting up of alternative seedbeds, cultivation of alternative crops in the affected lands and regular weather monitoring.

He said there are adequate seed stocks. The seeds should be distributed among the affected farmers and new seedbeds should be made quickly.
