Four bogies recovered, sufferings mount

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: Only four bogies have been recovered so far out of eight after a derailment of an oil-laden wagon at Haldiagachi in Charghat upazila.
According to sources, the Chapainawabganj-bound train from Pabna went off the tracks, halting movement on the route on Wednesday evening.
A rescue team started their operation at 10.00pm on Wednesday and till 1.30pm on Thursday they managed to recover only four out of eight bogies in 14 hours.
Chief Engineer Afjal Hossain said the rescue operation is being delayed due to bad weather.
The rail lines need to be repaired also as the railway tracks were badly damaged following the derailment, he further said. The communication is likely to get restored by night, he said.
Meanwhile, some trains have got stuck at different nearby stations like Ishwardi and Natore following the derailment, and passengers are facing untold sufferings.
The train was carrying 30 oil tankers, of which eight went off track.
A five-member investigating committee has also been formed that has been asked to submit its report within 72 hours.
