Gang-rape accused killed in gunfight

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: A rape accused was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police forces in Hatiber area of Uthura union of Bhaluka upazila in the district early Tuesday.

The deceased was known as Saiful, son of late Jabed Ali, hailed from Kaiyadi village of the upazila. He was accused in a case for gang raping an eighth grader.

Shah Kamal Akanda, Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh district detective branch said, acting on secret information, police forces from Bhaluka police station and Mymensingh DB police conducted a drive around 1:00am in the area to arrest rape case accused. Meanwhile, sensing presence of police, accused opened fire aiming policemen. In reply, police also opened fire.

Later, police recovered bullet-hit Saiful and sent him to Mymensingh medical college hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A pipe gun, three knifes were recovered from the spot.
