Gazipur City Mayor Mannan suspended

Staff Correspondent, Gazipur: Gazipur City Mayor MA Mannan has been temporarily suspended after he was charged with a criminal offence.

The local government ministry on Wednesday issued a circular signed by Assistant Secretary AKM Anisuzzaman. The circular says the decision came in keeping with the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, as Mannan has been indicted in a criminal case filed with Joydebpur Police Station.
 
Mannan, also a leader of BNP is in jail now.

Earlier, Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Rajshahi City Mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul were suspended on similar grounds.
 
Mannan, an advisor to the BNP chairperson, was arrested on February 11 from his Dhaka home.
