General holidays being extended till Apr 11

The government is extending the ongoing general holidays until April 11 considering the overall coronavirus situation in the country.

A notification in this regard will be published any time.

Sheikh Yousuf Harun, Secretary for Administration Ministry told this to risingbd on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the morning (Tuesday) said, “We have earlier announced 10 days general holidays from March 26 (to April 4) and it might be extended till April 9.”

She was exchanging views over the coronavirus situation across the country with the public representatives and field level government officials through video conference from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.

Public Administration Secretary said general holiday are being extended till April 9. With this, two days weekend would be added. So, the public holidays are being extended till April 11.

A draft notification has already been sent to Prime Minister. It will be published as gazette just after PM’a approval.

Mentionable, the government on March 23 declared a nationwide 10-day holidays from March 26 to April 4 shutting down the government and private offices excepting essential and healthcare facilities over the COVID-19 situation.
