Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has said the government is currently dealing with three challenges including prevention of coronavirus infection and keeping people safe.

The Road Transport and Bridges Minister came up with the statement in a press briefing at his official residence in the capital on Sunday.

He said, ‘The government is currently dealing with three challenges. These are: prevention of coronavirus infection and protection of helpless people, ensuring of protection for flood affected people of 12 districts and taking measures to avoid crowds of people on the upcoming Eid.’

Quader said, ‘It is true that free movement of people on Eid-ul-Fitr, participation in crowds and gatherings increased the level of coronavirus infection. So, the gathering and crowd must be avoided at any cost during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, for sake of protection.’

The AL leader also came down heavily on BNP leaders.

He said, ‘Mirza Fakhrul alleged that government has fulfilled the jail. We want to ask which top leader or central committee leader was sent to jail.’

He further said, ‘Those who are being arrested for different crimes including relief theft are identified as criminals. Will the government not take action against the perpetrators? Has any top leader been arrested except the identified criminals? The government is showing tolerance even though it is criticised with indecent language every day.’
