Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has announced that the government will bear the treatment costs of all people injured in Wednesday’s deadly fire at a plastic factory in Keraniganj area.
He made the disclosure while briefing the journalists after visiting the fire victims undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the city on Thursday.
“The conditions of the burn victims undergoing treatment at DMCH. The government will bear the expenses,” he added.
Replying to a question on whether the building owners would be brought under trial, Zahid said, “Most of the building owners did not follow the government instructions in building mill-factories. It cannot be tolerated anymore”.
The government will put pressure on building owner for realizing compensations for the fire victims, he added.
DMCH Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin, Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Chief Coordinator Dr Samanta Lal Sen and Bangladesh Medicine Society (BMS) General Secretary Dr Ahmedul Kabir were present at the briefing, among others.
