The government has taken up a project to set up 329 polytechnic institutions to expand technical education in the country, aiming to develop skilled human resources in pursuit of the middle-income country status.
The project was approved at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday to set up the 329 polytechnic institutes at a cost of over Tk 20,525.69 crore.
The ECNEC approved 8 projects including this one involving Tk 22,945.84 crore.
The weekly ECNEC meeting was held at the NEC Conference Room in the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Planning Minister MA Mannan briefed reporters about the details after the meeting.
