‘Govt to take stern action against lynching’

Senior Correspondent:  Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has warned stern actions against them who are involved in rumour-led lynching or mass beating.

Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said this at a press conference at the ministry on Wednesday.

Many people have so far been killed and wounded in incidents of mass beating across the country being led by rumours or suspicions. The government is investigating whether the recent incidents are part of an attempt to destabilise the country.

He said the rumour mongers as well as those involved in beating people to death would definitely be exposed to stern punitive actions under quickened trial process.

The ruling party general secretary said Awami League leaders have been asked to arrange meetings to raise awareness. MPs were instructed through the Chief Whip to arrange meetings in their localities in this regard.
