Mayor Ariful’s suspension stayed

Staff Correspondent: The High Court stayed the government order suspending Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury from his office.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order on Monday.

Barrister Moinul Hossain moved for the petitioner while Barrister Abdul Halim Kafi assisted him.

On Sunday, Ministry of Local Government temporarily suspended Sylhet Cit Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque within hours after he assumed office. Later, the mayor filed a petition with the High Court seeking a stay order.  

Earlier, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development & Cooperatives on January 7, 2015, suspended him as his name came in the charge sheet submitted in former finance minister Shah ASM Kibria murder trial.
