HC wants list of Ichamati river encroachers

The High Court (HC) has asked the authorities concerned to submit in 90 days a list of encroachers and polluters of Pabna’s Ichamati river.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order on Sunday following a writ petition.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities to explain in four weeks why they should not be directed to declare a 48-kilometre area of the Ichamati river an ecologically critical place.

Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) filed the writ seeking necessary orders.
