HC wants new medicine to eliminate Aedes mosquitoes

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has directed the authorities to take effective steps and use new medicine within one week to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes from the capital.

The chief health officials of two Dhaka city corporations have been asked to take new steps and medicine in preventing outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya, and eliminating the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes in the capital.

The bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi came up the order on Thursday.

The court also ordered Dhaka South City Corporation Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Sharif Ahmed and Dhaka North City Corporation Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Momimur Rahman Mamun to submit a report of their steps within one week.

Earlier, a report was submitted before the HC bench. Expressing dissatisfaction on the steps taken in preventing dengue outbreak in the capital, the HC bench summoned the chief health officials of two city corporations to appear before it on July 25.

On July 14, this HC bench issued the suo moto rule directing the authorities to take effective steps to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes from the capital and take preventive measures to stop the spread of dengue and chikungunya and, other similar diseases in the city.
