IS bride Shamima won’t be allowed to enter Bangladesh

The Bangladesh government has clearly said that Shamima Begum, the woman who left Britain as a schoolgirl to join Islamic State (IS) in Syria, was never a citizen of Bangladesh. He will not even be provided the right to enter Bangladesh.

Foreign Affairs Ministry made the disclosure in a press statement on Tuesday.

It said news published on different media about British citizen Shamima Begum has caught the attention of the Foreign Ministry. According to media reports, She (Shamima) travelled to Syria and joined IS. In this context, the British government revoked her citizenship in February last year. She appealed to the British High Court and the Special Immigration Appeals Commission against the decision. The courts rejected her appeal petitions and mentioned her as Bangladeshi origin.

The Bangladesh government has a clear position on this issue that British citizen Shamima Begum was never a citizen of Bangladesh; She has also no right in this regard. So, there is no space to allow her to enter Bangladesh.

Shamima, an East London schoolgirl, travelled to Syria to join IS on February 17, 2015. There she had married IS member Yago Riedijk.

Later, she was discovered in a Syrian camp. There, her one-year-old daughter and three-month-old son died. Then, she wanted to return to the UK.

Her return to Britain was taken to court. A court hearing is currently underway to bring her back to Britain.
