India extend lead to 343 after Mayank double

Opener Mayank Agarwal scored 243 as India ended Day 2 on 493/6.

He was dropped when on 32 by Imrul Kayes on the opening day of the Indore Test. That drop turned out very costly for Bangladesh, who toiled, and toiled hard, but in vain, as Mayank took their bowlers apart, breaking Bangladesh's spirit with an innings of a mammoth 243.

In just his eighth Test, Mayank brought up his second double century in Test cricket, before falling on the brink of stumps on Day 2. As a result, India piled on the runs on Friday (November 15), ending the day on 493 for 6, with their lead swelling to 343. Over 400 runs were scored on the day.

Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav ended day 2 with 60 and 25 runs respectively. The duo will start the day 3.

Ravindra Jadeja also capitalized on the tired legs and scored a neat fifty mixing caution with aggression in the right amounts.

Umesh Yadav was sent ahead of Ashwin to hasten the process of declaration and he didn't disappoint by smashing three lusty sixes.

After Day-2 lunch, Rahane were sent back by Abu Jayed Rahi for 86 runs with 9 fours.

Four wickets among 6 India have lost in this game so far were taken by Abu Jayed. The right-arm pacer has been doing well in the match. Bangladesh are missing a third-seamer in their first World Test Championship match.

India ended day-1 on 86 for 1. They resumed carefully, but still, lost two wickets in the first session of day-2.

Before Virat’s dismissal, Abu Jayed removed Cheteshwar Pujara who was looking to get dangerous at 54 off 72 with nine fours. Saif Hassan, the substitute fielder, took an easy catch to remove Pujara.

Earlier, Bangladesh were wrapped up only for 150/10 in 58.3 overs. They were hammered by the one of the best pace-attacks of the world right now- Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav.

While Shami bagged three wickets conceding only 27 runs, Ishant and Umesh scalped two wickets each, and Ravichandran Ashwin hunted two wickets as well.

Before heading to this Test, Bangladesh lost the three-match T20Is series to the hosts 2-1. Despite winning the first game, they failed to replicate the same performance in the last two matches, and thus they cost the series.
