India wants safe, sustainable Rohingya repatriation: Shringla

Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla has said that his country wants to see a safe and sustainable repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar from Bangladesh.
He said this while delivering his speech at a seminar on ‘Bangladesh and India: A Promising Future’ at Sonargaon Hotel in the city on Monday.
Bangladesh Institute for International Studies (BISS) organised the event.
“India is committed to helping Bangladesh so that Rohingya people can return to Myanmar safely”, he said.
“We appreciate Bangladesh for giving shelters to 10 Rohingya people and really we understand the Bangladesh’s problem”, said Shringla.
The Indian foreign secretary said “Both Bangladesh and Myanmar are our friend. We don’t want the problem looms over the years. So, we expect a safe and sustainable repatriation of Rohingya people”.
India keeps all its efforts in finding a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis. Since the fresh influx of Rohingyas in 2017, India remains beside Bangladesh to deal with the humanitarian crisis, he said.
India has already built numbers of houses in Rakhine state so that Rohingyas can stay safe there after returning to their land of origin, he said.
Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi spoke as the chief guest highlighting the relationship between the two countries.
BIISS Chairman Ambassador Fazlul Karim and Indian High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das, among others, spoke.
