Intern assaults nurse at Mitford Hospital

Staff Correspondent: An intern doctor has been suspended for allegedly beating up a senior nurse at Sir Salimullah Medical College (SSMC) and Midford Hospital in Dhaka.

The accused intern doctor Rafiqul Islam Sujon beat up senior nurse Bakul Rani Das, 45, at one stage of altercation over a trivial matter at the labour ward of the hospital on Saturday noon, hospital sources said.

The injured nurse was admitted to casualty ward of the hospital.

Following the incident, other nurses of the hospital went on work abstention.

Later, the authorities of the hospital sat in a meeting and decided to suspend the accused intern, Brig Gen Zakir Hasan, director of Mitford Hospital said.

He also said that a three-member committee led by head of child department Lutful Khabir has been formed to investigate the incident.

The committee has been asked to submit its report within three working days.
