Irregularities in Coronavirus aid list

The government has been carrying out programmes to give cash aid to the victims of Coronavirus. But, irregularities have been found in the list of 2,286,528 beneficiaries.

Information of these beneficiaries have been sent to the concerned upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) to bring amendment. A letter of financial ministry has confirmed the matter recently.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched a disbursement of cash assistance among 50 lakh poor families hit hard amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. As part of it, after collecting information from across the country, a list of beneficiaries was sent to department of finance through Department of Information and Communication Technology and Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Following the list, the allocated money has been sent to 1,616,356 beneficiaries already. Besides, 201,731 people are set to get the amount. But, the information of 493,200 persons have been cancelled due incompatibility.

Moreover, irrelevant information found in the list of 2,286,528 persons. On June 15, a meeting led by PM’s office director general (2) Md Azizur Rahman was held in this regard.

Wishing anonymity, an additional secretary of financial division told risingbd that several types of irregularities have been found in the aid list of 50 lakh poor families. That’s why some steps have been taken to solve the issue. Bangladesh Bank issued necessary directions to the concerned to open bank accounts for distributing the money smoothly.
