Italy reports record number of coronavirus recoveries

Italy has reported a record high in new patient recoveries from Covid-19, data from the Italian Civil Protection Agency showed Thursday.

The number of people who have recovered from the virus is now 75,945, a record high. The agency reported 4,693 recoveries since Wednesday alone.

Italy also recorded 285 new deaths, the lowest increase in deaths in the last four days.

Italy on Thursday reported 285 new fatalities from the novel coronavirus, bringing the total to 27,967, with the largest daily drop in active cases since the beginning of the outbreak.

The data released by the Italian Civil Protection Department confirm that the country has left behind the peak of the pandemic as it braces for a partial restart of activities and a relaxation of the nationwide lockdown on May 4.

The tally of active infections fell by 3,106, the biggest drop ever, and now stands at 101,551.
