Staff Correspondent: Dr. Maqsudul Alam, who decoded the genome sequence of the indigenous variety of jute, has died at the age of 60.
The scientist breathed his last at the Queen’s Hospital of Hawaii in United States of America (USA) early Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Confirming about the dead, Maj Gen (retd) Monjurul Alam, elder brother of the decease, said Maqsudul Alam will be laid to his eternal rest at the Hawaiian General Park at 3:00pm (local time) on Monday.
The dedicated scientist was hospitalized with Liver Cirrhosis, a slowly progressing disease in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, eventually preventing the liver from functioning properly, for a long time and undergoing treatment. He was in life support at the hospital.
Earlier on Thursday night, internal bleeding was started into his body as well as his liver, kidney and lung became useless.
Maksudul Alam, a professor of the University of Hawaii, earlier decoded the genome of papaya in the USA and rubber plant in Malaysia.
