Noted journalist Kamal Lohani passes away

Noted journalist and cultural personality Kamal Lohani has died of coronavirus or COVID-19 infection (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un).

He breathed his last around 10:10 am on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in the capital.

Kamal Lohani’s son Sagar Lohani confirmed the matter to risingbd.

The 86-year-old left behind a son, two daughters, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Kamal Lohani’s son Sagar Lohani said yesterday morning that his father was admitted to Health and Hope Hospital at Panthapath in the city as he had been suffering from fever for last several days.

Later, Sagar Lohani confirmed that his father was infected with coronavirus.

The noted cultural figure was also suffering from heart disease and diabetes alongside lung and kidney complications.

Kamal Lohani started his career as a journalist with the daily Millat. Then, he has worked in important positions in Daily Azad, Sangbad, Purbodesh, and Dainik Barta. He has also served as the President of Dhaka Journalists Union. This eminent personality has served as the Director-General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy for two terms.
