Khaleda gives food to destitute

DHAKA, May 30: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday distributed cooked food among the destitute in different areas of the city, marking the 32nd death anniversary of late president and party founder Ziaur Rahman.
Khaleda, the widow of Zia, inaugurated a three-day destitute feeding programme taken by Dhaka city unit BNP distributing food among the poor at Khamarbri of Farmgate in the city after placing wreaths at the grave of the late president in observance of the day.
Later, she distributed food among men, women and children in around 23 points of the city, including Mohamadpur Town Hall, Shaheed Park, Jhigatala Bus Stand, Azimpur Battala, Hazaribagh Medical Staff Quarter, High Court Mazar, Jatiya Press Club, Kaptanbazar, Northsouth Road, Bangshal, Dholaipar Crossing, Segunbagicha High School, Kakrail, Jhorpukurmath of Khilgaon, BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Shantinagar Bazar, Holy Family Hospital of Moghbazar, and Banglamotor.
She is also scheduled to distribute food on Friday and Saturday in other parts of the city on the occasion.
Earlier, in the day, Khaleda flanked by party leaders and workers, placed wreaths and offered fateha at Zia’s mazar in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar around 11:15 am.
She also attended a milad mahfil arranged by Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal on the premises of Zia’s mazar and also joined the doa mahfil.
On May 30, 1981, Ziaur Rahman was assassinated by a group of disgruntled army officers at the Chittagong Circuit House.
