Court Correspondent: Fugitive BNP leader Zahid Hossain Khokon, also known as Khokon Razakar, has been convicted for crimes against humanity, including genocide, torture, abduction, rape and confinement during the country’s liberation war in 1971 and awarded capital punishment.


An International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) bench led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order on Thursday noon.

 

Based on the allegation number 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 the ICT-2 pronounce death sentence for the Razakar.

 

The ICT-1 found Khokon Razakar guilty in 10 charges out of total 11, which include genocide, torture, abduction, rape and confinement during the country’s liberation war in 1971.

 

Khokon Razakar contested the municipality election of Nagarkanda in 2011 and became its mayor. He is the vice-president of Nagarkanda unit BNP.  

 
Khokon, now 70, led the Razakar Bahini, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani army, in Faridpur district in 1971.


Earlier on April 17 this year, after both prosecution and defense finished placing their arguments, the ICT-1 passed the order keeping the case CAV, meaning “verdict would be delivered later.”
