Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has denied bail to lone accused KM Zahirul Islam Palash in a case filed over the murder of college teacher Krishna Kaberi Biswas at Mohammadpur in the capital.

Judge Shahed Nuruddin of Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 in Dhaka dismissed Zahirul’s bail petition after hearing in the case on Thursday.

Zahirul has been made an accused in Krishna Kaberi murder case but he was not involved in the murder. There is no specific allegation against him. Therefore, I pray for bail to Zahirul, said Uzzal Prosad Kanu, a lawyer for Zahirul.

Earlier, the court fixed today (July 13) to interrogate Sudhangshu Shekhar Bishwas (elder brother of Krishna Kaberi’s husband) but he did not appear before the court today.

The court again fixed July 27 for quizzing Sudhangshu showing reason of his absence in the court.

Earlier, the court on April 20 framed charges against lone accused KM Zahirul Islam Palash in the murder case. On May 30, 2016, DB of police submitted a charge sheet against the accused.

According to the case documents, Krishna Kaberi Biswas, 36, wife of BRTA deputy director Sitangshu Shekhar Bishwas and a former college teacher of the city’s Mission International College, came under a brutal hammer attack by the accused in their apartment on March 30, 2015.

Krishna’s husband Sitangshu, their 14-year-old daughter Srabani Biswas Sruti and eight-year-old daughter Arti Biswas, were also injured in the attack.

On the night of March 30, the accused KM Zahirul Islam Palash, who worked as a manager for a brokerage firm, entered the flat of Sitangshu to greet him on his belated birthday. At one stage, Palash hit his head with a hammer after drugging him with contaminated juice.

As Krishna wanted to save her husband, the killer hacked her with a kitchen sickle and later set her on fire.

She died the following day.
