Launch carrying over 50 passengers capsizes in Buriganga

A launch carrying more than 50 passengers capsized in the river Buriganga in capital's Farasganj-Shyambazar area on Monday (June 29) morning.

The incident took place when a launch named  Morning Bird capsized in the river around 10 am after it was hit by another launch Moyur-2, said Rozina Islam, Duty Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters.

Many passengers on board went missing due to the launch capsize while several others managed to swim ashore, she said.

A team of divers is currently on the spot to rescue the missing people, she added.
