‘Lockdown within 48 to 72 hrs after marking areas’

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said we will be able to enforce lockdown within 48 to 72 hours after identifying specific areas. But we need to get precise mapping before that. We hope we will get the specific areas needed to be lockdown in next two or three days.

The Mayor said this while speaking in a meeting of Central Management Committee of DSCC on implementation of zoning system to control Covid-19 held at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday.

Taposh said, “The authorities concerned will mark the areas for us. Then we will go on implementation after involving local councillor so that people will not face any problem. There are different jobs from the delivery of food to the needy. We will enforce lockdown in specific area after making people aware over it through announcement of loudspeaker. That's why it will take for us another 48 to 72 hours after getting the list of specific areas.

The Mayor said we will try not to cause any problems to people in certain areas where lockdown will be enforced. In fact, everyone’s cooperation and awareness can make this activity success. All activities will be successful only if everyone is aware and fulfills their responsibilities. We are taking preparations from our level.

The red zone areas under DSCC are: Jatrabari, Demra, Mugda, Gendaria, Dhanmondi, Jigatola, Lalbag, Azimpur, Basabo, Shantinagar, Paltan, Kalabagan, Ramna, Sutrapur, Malibag, Kotwali, Tikatuli, Mitford, Shahjahanpur, Motijheel, Wari, Khilgaon, Poribag, Kodomtoli, Siddeshwari, Laxmibazar, Elephant Road and Segunbagicha.
