MPs express anger over onion price hike

The ruling Awami League senior lawmakers have expressed anger over onion price hike in the National Parliament.

Standing on a point-of-order in the House on Thursday, Awami League presidium member and former health minister, Mohammad Nasim spoke about the onion price hike. Later, former commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, former Chief Whip ASM Firoz put their opinion over the issue.

Mohammad Nasim said, “A reaction has been created among the people centering onion price hike. The price of onion has become Tk200 today. The commerce minister will have to take necessary steps. If needed, duty on onion import will be removed.”

Tofail Ahmed said, the country is moving forward under the leadership of the Prime Minister. We are working under her leadership. But, why the price of onion is increasing every day?

“Our reputation is being hampered due to onion price hike. If needed, import onion from foreign countries. Otherwise, people will not take the issue positively,” he added.
