Mad rush at BRTA, officials fall tired!

As the new Road Transport Act came into force, a huge number of people are thronging offices of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) across the country every day to have the documents of their vehicles renewed and keep those up to date to avoid tougher penalties.

Many people are visiting BRTA offices to get new driving licences and renew the old ones. Others are going there to get fitness or registration certificates of their vehicles. Some are also visiting there to change ownership.

This rise in the number of service seekers has put the BRTA officials under pressure. Alongside, people are also suffering to get services.

In this circumstance, people expressed fear about the role of BRTA in case of implementing the new road transport law.

Mohammad Sayeed, who came to Dhaka Metro Cricle-1 (Mirpur) to change ownership of a motorcycle. He reached the office around 9:30am on Tuesday. After the noon, he was informed flaw are found in the necessary documents. He was told to come again with the correction.

Being disappointed, he left the office to amend the documents. He returned the office with proper documents after two hours but found all rooms are vacant. Officials are on lunch.

Assistant Director (Engineer) Farhanul Islam said we three officials signed the papers of ownership change. Of the three, someone off and on has to visit head office. Then, we feel heavy workload. Sometimes, people are to wait because of huge crowds as manpower is very poor. We, however, try to give services as soon as possible.

BRTA deputy director (Engineer) Shafiquzzaman Bhuiyan said officials are very much under pressure with workload as crows have been increased since the new road transport act came into force. But we are trying our best to give people services.
