Malaysia extends lockdown till June 9

Malaysia has been able to contain the spread of coronavirus. However, the Malaysian government has decided to extend the lockdown by four weeks.

The country has been following partial lockdown with some restrictions being lifted in phases. However, the lockdown will now be extended till June 9.

The current lockdown was scheduled to end on May 12, Tuesday. However, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has announced that the movement restrictions need to continue to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

As the cases had been decreasing in the country, the government had allowed few businesses to re-open to revive its economy.

However, mass gatherings remain barred. All schools, cinemas and places of worship too will stay shut. In addition it, the travel restrictions are still in place.

Malaysia recorded 67 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 6,656, and 108 deaths. _Agencies
