Maldives to ease lockdown after June 15

Maldives capital’s lockdown has been extended by another three days, with additional easing measures to be introduced on June 15.

In an announcement made on Thursday, the Director General of Public Health noted that additional lockdown easing measures are to be introduced on June 15 given the changes to the country’s Covid-19 situation, but that measures will remain in place until 14th June.

As such, vehicles and public gatherings are prohibited in all islands in the greater Malé region from 12-14 June, as well public transport and travel between the islands in the region.

Those that are exempt from these are police and military officers, health officials and those with the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) passes.

While the capital was placed under lockdown on April 15, phase of lockdown easing began on May 29. The decision to initiate lockdown easing was announced on May 28, the same day authorities extended the public health emergency declared across the country.
