Man killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB

A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Rayerbazar area in the capital early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Nazim, 45.

RAB official Sazzad Mia said, acting on a tip off, a patrol team of RAB went to the spot as a gang of drug smugglers was staying there. Sensing presence of law enforcers, drug peddlers fired at them. RAB members also retaliated, leaving Nazim injured and while others fled the scene. Nazim was whisked off to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where duty doctors declared him dead around 6:00am.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Komol of Rayerbazar Police Station confirmed the news.
