Mashrafe to lead Tigers in ODIs against Zimbabwe

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will lead Bangladesh cricket team in the three-match one day international (ODI) series against Zimbabwe in Sylhet scheduled to take place in March.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon confirmed the matter on Wednesday.

The board president also hinted that it would be the last series of Mashrafe as team captain. Later, he can stay at the team as a normal player proving his strength.

After a 51 minutes long meeting with players at Mirpur home of cricket, Papon said, “I think Mashrafe is going to lead this series for sure. If he becomes unfit then that’s a different issue.”

Centering captaincy issue, the BCB boss said, “We have to take decision soon about the captaincy. Next world cup to be held in 2023. We can’t recruit new captain just before the world cup. We will fix team and captain for world cup at least two years earlier. A clear decision will be announced within one month.”

Bangladesh will play three match ODI series against Zimbabwe on March 1, 3 and 6 in Sylhet.
