Mayor Miru suspended from mayoral post

Sirajganj Correspondent: Sirajganj's Shahjadpur municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru, the prime accused in journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul- murder case, has been temporarily suspended from the mayoral post.

A circular signed by LGRD ministry's deputy secretary Abdur Rauf Mia confirmed the matter on Monday.

Following the same allegation, the authority also suspended Abdur Razzak, ward no.7 councilor of the municipality.

Sirajganj LGRD deputy director Abu Nur Mohammad Shamsuzzaman said, "We have reached a letter in this regard around 4:00pm.

Shimul, the upazila correspondent of the Daily Samakal, was shot and injured by Miru on February 2, during a clash.

Shimul died the following day while being taken to Dhaka.

Afterwards, the victim’s wife, Nurunnahar Begum, filed the case with the police station accusing 40 people including 18 identified suspects.
