‘Media owners have no existence without journalists’

Staff Correspondent: Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has said that media owners have no existence without journalists.

The Chief Justice came up with the observation during hearing on a government appeal on the ninth wage board for journalists on Monday.

An Appellate Division bench headed by the Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed Tuesday (August 20) as the date to pronounce its judgment for this petition.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state during hearing. AF Hasan Arif stood for NOAB.

Earlier the Supreme Court chamber judge fixed August 19 to hear the government appeal on the ninth wage board for journalists.

The state sought a stay on the High Court Division order to maintain a status-quo for two months on publication of gazette notification of the ninth wage board.

Last month, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said a gazette will be published after the Cabinet approves recommendations for implementing the ninth wage board.

Quader said they made realistic recommendations after discussions with the stakeholders.
