Moyur-2 launch owner put on 3-day remand

A court in Dhaka placed Moyur-2 launch owner Mosaddek Hanif on a three-day remand in connection with a case filed over the launch capsize in Buriganga River.

Dhaka senior judicial magistrate Monika Khan passed the order after hearing on Thursday (July 9).

Earlier, investigation officer (IO), sub-inspector of naval police Shahidul Alam produced the accused before the court seeking seven days of remand.

On Wednesday (July 8), police arrested the accused from Sobahanbagh of Kalabagan area in the capital around 3:00pm.

33 people drowned when Moyur-2 launch capsized in the Buriganga River at the capital's Shyambazar on June 29. Later, a case was filed with Dakkhin Keraniganj police station mentioning seven names.

The other accused are –Master Abul Bashar Mollah, 65, Jakir Hossain, 39, Engine driver Shipon Hawladar, 45, driver Shakil Hossain, 28, Sukani Nasir Mridha and Sukani Ridoy, 24.
