The government has appointed former senior secretary Nasima Begum as the chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs yesterday issued a gazette notification of her appointment upon getting the president's approval.
According to the notification, Nasima Begum will get facilities equivalent to an Appellate Division judge as the NHRC chairman.
Nasima Begum, who will be successor of the current NHRC Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, was the former senior secretary of Women and Children Affairs ministry.
The government also appointed six other members for the NHRC.
Among the members of the commission, Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed has been made a permanent member while the honorary members are: Advocate Toufika Aftab, Chinkiyo Rowaja, Begum Jasmin Ara Begum, Mizanur Rahman Khan and Dr Namita Halder.
