The nation will observe a one-minute ‘blackout’ programme on March 25, marking ‘Genocide Day,’ said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday.
The Home Minister said this after emerging from a meeting held at the conference room of the Home ministry with top officials of law enforcement agencies concerning observing ‘Genocide Day’ on March 25 and Independence Day on March 26.
Discouraging people to participate in an open function and join public gatherings in order to prevent the spread of the fast-spreading coronavirus (COVID-19), Asaduzzaman said, “We’ll observe a symbolic one-minute blackout programme on March 25 night from 9:00pm to 9:01pm to pay tribute to the martyrs on the occasion of ‘Genocide Day’.”
Additional security measures will be taken at significant monuments, including Savar National Mausoleum, Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Rayerbazar, and Suhrawardy Udyan, he said.
However, vehicles and emergency services will remain outside the purview of the programme, he said.
