Newly elected councillor arrested for beating up police officer

Newly elected councillor of ward no 23 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has been arrested for allegedly beating a police member.

The councillor known as Shakhawat Hossain. He was in custody of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) till the report was filed on Tuesday afternoon.

Assistant Commissioner (Khilgaon Zone) Zulfikar Ali confirmed the news.

He said councillor Shakhawat Hossain was arrested from Rampura area on Monday night. He is being interrogated in DB office.

According to police, Shakhawat allegedly beat an inspector of Special Branch (SB) of police. The victim filed a case against him with Khilgaon Police Station.

Shakhawat and his supporters beat the police officer, leaving him wound.
