No scope to defer elections: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said, “There is no legal scope to defer the elections. But, the President can take the issue before the Supreme Court. He also said that there is no scope the defer polls.”

The CEC made the opinion while replying to reporters after a view exchange meeting with law enforcers and candidates on the occasion of Jashore-6 by-polls on Saturday (July 11).

Earlier, aiming the law enforcers, CEC KM Nurul Huda said, the decision to hold election during coronavirus was taken due to constitutional reason, not to provide facilities to any person or party.

Meanwhile, he directed the concerned all to run election campaign maintaining health guidelines.

Deputy administration Tamijul Islam Khan presided over the meeting where election commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, additional secretary to EC Ashok Kumar Debnath and others attended.
