One killed in capital ‘gunfight’

A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB in capital’s Sher-e-Bangla area on Saturday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Hanif Mia, son of Biddia Mia at Rupganj in Narayanganj.

According to RAB sources, acting on a tip off that a gang of robbers were taking preparations to commit robbery in the area. A team of RAB members conducted a drive there and sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire targeting RAB members, forcing them to back fire in self defence that triggered a gunfight.

Hanif Mia was rescued with bullet injury from the spot and he was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.
