One killed in city ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Khilkhet area of the capital early Tuesday. 

The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain.

ASP Kamruzzaman, company commander of RAB-1, confirmed the matter to risingbd this morning.

Acting on a tip-off that a gang of drug peddlers gathered in the area, a RAB team rushed to the spot around 2:00am, he said.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire on the RAB members forcing them to retaliate in self-defence, he added.

The gunfight left one of the drug peddlers bullet-hit on the spot. He was rushed to Kurmitola general hospital where duty doctors declared him dead, he said.

The RAB members recovered arms and bullets from the spot.

ASP Kamruzzaman claimed that Anwar was wanted in 18 different cases.
