Over 100 traders become pauper in Chattogram market fire

Over 100 traders have become pauper as a devastating fire, broke out at Jahur Hawkers Market in Chattogram city early Saturday, has burned down their shops and valuables.

Over 100 shops were gutted in the devastating fire. Traders of the market have incurred huge loss as their goods worth Tk 4 crore have been burnt to ashes.

The fire originated at the market under Kotwali Police Station in the port city around 4.00am.

Around 15 units of fire fighters from Agrabad, Nandankanon, Chandanpur and Kalurghat fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after an effort of four hours.

Mohammad Babul Hossain, president of Jahur Hawkers Market Traders’ Association, said the fire incident has caused a massive damage to the market, and over 100 traders have become pauper. It has burned down valuables worth Tk 3/4 crore.

The fire originated from electric short circuit, sources said.
