PM for building technology based armed forces

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her firm belief to build the Armed Forces based on modern, powerful and time-befitting technology.

“We have no intention to fight with anyone. We want peace. But we want to build armed forces based on modern, powerful and time-befitting technology so that we can properly face if anyone attacks us,” the premier said.

She said this while commissioning the BNS 'Sangram' through videoconference from her official residence Ganobhaban on Thursday (June 18).

The prime minister said every force of the Armed Forces – Army, Navy and Air Force – will be equipped with modern knowledge.

Stressing the need for strengthening Bangladesh Navy further in a bid to protect the country’s vast maritime area, Hasina said, "We have already procured many modern equipment, including ships for the naval force. It is essential to know how to protect our vast sea area and its resources."

"We have started building ships on limited scale in our country and also repairing them. We are working in joint ventures with friendly countries where it is essential in this sector," she said.

The premier said, "We first handed over Khulna shipyard to the Navy. Later, we have given two dry docks in Narayanganj and Chattgram to the Navy."

“We'll have to be learned, prepared and to have technology knowledge as well. So that we can build our ships on our own in future and can export if necessary. This will also have to be kept in mind,” she added.
