Pandit Ramkanai Das no more

Staff Correspondent: Legendary folk song maestro, Pandit Ramkanai Das, breathed his last at a city hospital on Friday night.

 

He died at Metropolitan Hospital in capital’s Mohakhali while undergoing treatment for brain haemorrhage since August 27 at around 11:00pm. He was 79.

Ramkanai Das was born in Sunamganj in 1935.

In 2014, the government awarded him `Ekushey Padak`, one of the highest civilian awards of Bangladesh, for his contribution to collecting folk songs.
