Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader has expressed concern as garment workers are taking streets demanding the salary and allowance ahead of Eid amid coronavirus crisis.
He also urged garment factory owners to pay salary and allowances to the workers immediately.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister said this while speaking at a press conference at his official residence in the capital on Wednesday.
Obaidul Quader said, “We are observing with deep concern that many owners of mill-industries have yet not paid salary and allowance to their workers. There are protests and unrest in name of workers. Workers are taking streets every day which is unexpected during this crisis moment.”
“I request all owners of garment and mill factories those have yet not paid salary and allowance to workers, please immediately pay them,” he added.
Urging people not to go home during Eid, Obaidul Quader said, “I want to say people those are willing to go home that the government is very strict to stop you.”
“Stay at home. Do not get stuck on way after going out from home. If it happens, you will fall in immense sufferings. Help the government to overcome the crisis. Otherwise, the government will be stricter to control the situation,” he said.
