People rushing to National Memorial

People from all walks of life are moving towards the National Memorial at Savar to pay homage to martyrs who made supreme sacrifices to liberate the country from the clutches of the Pakistan occupation forces fighting a nine-month war in 1971.

Marking the 49th Victory Day, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths around 6.34am at the National Memorial at Savar to pay homage to martyrs who made supreme sacrifices to liberate the country from the clutches of the Pakistan occupation forces.

They also signed the visitors` book kept on the premises of the National Mausoleum. They also stood in solemn silence to pay respect for the martyrs.

A smart contingent plucked from Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force presented a state salute on the occasion when bugles played the last post.

Speaker of the Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, cabinet members and others placed wreaths at the National Memorial.

Diffident political and social organizations and people from all walks of life with the national flags are placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Sava from early Monday.
