Rangpur Rangers get new coach

New Zealand’s Mark O’Donnell will replace Grant Flower as the coach of Rangpur Rangers in the upcoming special edition of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.

Rangpur team director Akram Khan said former Zimbabwe opener Flower turned down the Rangpur job after he was appointed as the batting consultant of Sri Lanka national team.

“Grant Flower was our coach. But he said he was trying to join somewhere as batting consultant. Now he entered into two-year contract with Sri Lanka. He apologised to us and said it was a good opportunity,” said Akram.

“We confirmed Mark O’Donnell in his place and he will come within two to three days. We are not getting Flower anymore,” Akram added.

Former Auckland coach O’Donnell worked as the coach of Jamaica Tallawahs in the last Caribbean Premier League.

The seventh edition of BPL will commence on December 11.

The BCB turned the edition as special one marking the birth centenary of country’s founding president Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
