Rickshaw-pullers halt traffic in several Dhaka roads

Staff Correspondent:  Traffic movement in different parts of the capital came to a halt on Tuesday as rickshaw-pullers continued their demonstrations for the second consecutive day blocking roads demanding withdrawal of rickshaw ban.

Rickshaw-pullers took positions at several points including Rampura, Malibagh and Khilgaon in the capital from the morning to protest the restriction. 

They blockaded roads, halting traffic movements in the areas. As a result, commuters are facing untold sufferings due to lack of public transports.

There are no CNGs or other public transports available due to the tailback in different places. Commuters are forced to pay double for available transports like bike sharing rides or they are walking to their destinations.

A rickshaw puller said if their demand is met today otherwise they will go to nonstop movement from Wednesday.

Badda Thana OC Rafikul Islam said we are trying to understand the rickshaw-pullers to free roads and we are on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents centring the demonstration.
