Rickshaw-pullers postpone their demonstration

Staff Correspondent:  Rickshaw-pullers have postponed their demonstration demanding withdrawal of rickshaw ban until further decision.

General Secretary of Jatiya Rickshaw Van Sramik League Unus Ali announced this at a press conference at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on Wednesday noon.

In his speech, Unus Ali also hailed the Prime Minister’s directive to the authorities concerned to ensure separate lane for slow vehicles on all highways of the country.

The Prime Minister made a number of directives on Tuesday’s Ecnec meeting out of which a directive has been made to ensure discrete lane for slow vehicles meant for rickshaws, carts and vans on all highways.

Traffic movement in different parts of the capital came to a halt on Monday and Tuesday as rickshaw-pullers continued their demonstrations blocking roads demanding withdrawal of rickshaw ban.

Rickshaw-pullers took positions at several points including Rampura, Malibagh and Khilgaon in the capital from the morning to protest the restriction.

They blockaded roads, halting traffic movements in the areas. As a result, commuters faced untold sufferings due to lack of public transports.
