Road Transportation Act: No bus services in many districts

Transport workers have continued their indefinite strike for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in many districts in protest against the implementation of the Road Transportation Act-2018 and demanding its reformation.

Transport workers of Pirojpur, Jhalokati, Satkhira and Jhenidah districts have stopped all bus services from Tuesday morning. As a result, passengers of the districts are facing untold sufferings.

Transport workers’ leaders said they want some amendments to the new law, including granting bail in the accident-related cases.  “We will continue this strike until our demands are met”, they said.

Secretary of the Jhalokati Motor Sramik Union Bahadur Chowdhury told to risingbd, “The transport workers have halted bus services on various routes demanding reformation in the newly-enacted Road Transportation Act.  Some provisions of the act should be amended on emergency basis as this act has gone against us.”
